Hi guys and gals,
We have finally confirmed our itinerary for our upcoming adventures. We sat down with our lovely travel agent Olivia and nutted out a schedule which starts on 7th June.
First up is 8 days through England, Scotland and Wales... as you can see this is the only tour that we could not obtain a map that outlines where we go, but it heads up the eastern side of Great Britain through Oxford and York, up to Edinburgh and on to Glasgow via the Scottish Highlands. From there its back down the western side through Liverpool and on to Wales before heading back to London on 14th June.
After a week that will most likely be spent ensuring that we have seen absolutely everything London has to offer, we start our Europe leg of the journey on 22nd June.
On the horizon is 7 weeks of camping with the occasional hostel, overnight ferry, and sailboat thrown in for accommodation. Anticipated highlights include a champagne picnic under the Eiffel Tower, the Monte Carlo casino in Monaco, everything in Rome, 3 days sailing off the coast of Greece, a visit to the ANZAC beaches of Gallipoli, a tour of the Nazi Germany concentration camps, and a return to beloved Amsterdam. We return to London on 9th August. For more information on the European tour visit: http://www.topdecktours.co.uk/content.asp?Document_ID=1643
After a very brief last good bye to London we fly out for Cairo on 11th August, the next morning the Egypt leg of our trip kicks into full swing. For the first 11 days we follow the tour through the history lesson that is Egypt, highlights include the pyramids and sphinx at Giza, 3 days and 2 nights aboard a felucca on the mighty Nile river, the Valley of the Kings, and time to relax as little or as much as possible in Dahab on the coast of the Red Sea. On day 12 we will be staying on in Dahab for an extra 4 days of R and R in Dahab before heading back to Cairo with a couple more days to explore the Egyptian museum. Our Egypt experience concludes on 28th August when we board a plane for Nairobi, Kenya. For more info on the King Ramses Egypt tour visit: http://www.onthegotours.com/index.php?pageid=56
Upon arrival in Nairobi we have a day to acclimatise before taking advantage of the free 3 day Masai Mara safari. For more info visit: http://www.africaonthego.com/Bolt-ons---masaimara
From here we begin our 43 day tour down through Africa, starting on 1st September. Highlights of the 8 country adventure include the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater, numerous lakes and other National Parks, Victoria Falls, and for Renee at least, a chance to dive with the Great Whites off the coast of Cape Town. Our African Safari concludes in Cape Town on 13th October, and after a couple more days to investigate we board a local flight to Jo'Berg before catching our Qantas bird back to Auckland via Sydney. Our ETA in Auckland is 2220 on 16th October.
Planning is going well for our departure, yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting the travel clinic to get our vaccinations, 4 needles in the arm later, we took our complimentary chuppa chups and left with..... well, sore arms covered in plasters. Oh well, as long as we both get back in one piece I guess it will all have been worth it. Most travel necessities have been purchased, and as soon as we finalise the shipping of our excess baggage and our tax refunds, we will be free to sit back and prepare for the adventures of a lifetime.
